RESEARCH

DIGITAL DIVIDE

The increasing prevelance of ditigal technology in all areas of society have made it more important than ever to be connected to the internet. However, not all people have a reliable hig bandwidth internet connection. CDS has expertise in researching policy approaches to bridging the digital divide, particularly in the education sector.

DIGITAL SKILLS

Access to technology is only beneficial if people have the adequate skills to use the technology for their advantage. CDS’ team specialises in measuring digital skills among various groups and is commited to contribute to building digital skills through workshops and trainings.

DIGITAL PLATFORMS

The development and spread of technology have had far-reaching impacts on the economy and are promising to revolutionise further how we work. One area where this has been most apparent is the rapid rise of the platform economy. The team at CDS has emphasised this area in their research particularly focusing on the ride-hailing and food delivery economy in Bangkok.

MARGINALISED GROUPS

Marginalised groups are particularly vulnerable to negative impacts of digital technology while also stand to gain substantial benefits if digital technology is implemented in a just manner. At CDS we aim to do research that empowers people and find pathways for the sustianable implementation of digital technology to support the most vulnerable.

DIGITAL ETHNOGRAPHY

Ethnographic research has been used for decades to study various cultural groups, from traditional societies to modern urban communities. With the increasing prevalence of social media and online places where people meet, connect, work, and play, a new area of culture of interaction has evolved that both influences and is influenced by life offline. Hence, the CDS team specialises in digital ethnography which extends ethnographic methods to the online realm.
