Internet and mobile use

Among Thailand’s nearly 70 million people, just 50% live in urban areas, but 82% is considered internet users. 51 million or 74% of the population are social media users, which is high as Singapore where it advances economics at 79% social media users.
Only 25%, the same percentage as last year, uses laptops or desktop computers while there is 71%, a very high percentage of people who use a laptop in Singapore.

They spend an average of 9 hours and 11 minutes daily via any device. 4 hours higher compared to the last 4 years A surprising number on 3 hours and 11 minutes being spent on social media on a daily basis. 3 hours and 44 minutes were spent on TV viewing, including broadcast, streaming, and video.

Thailand has 92 million mobile connections, which is approximately 133% of the population. There 77% of mobile connections that are pre-paid and 23% that are post-paid. 99% of mobile connections are broad-band.

95% of internet users using mobile messenger, also for watching the video. 85% play games on mobile. 80% of the users use for map service.

E-commerce

There is approximately 7% higher than last year has a mobile money account and 15% higher in making online purchases and/or pay bills online.

90% of the internet users who reported searching online for a product or service to buy almost 20% higher from last year. There is an increasing percentage of 80 purchased a product or service online. An interesting number of online purchased via a mobile device at 71% where last year was at 52%.

According to the Thailand Marketing Research Society, 71% of smartphone users in Thailand shop online an average of twice a month, which they spend on the fashion and beauty the most, Lazada tops the eCommerce platform rankings in Thailand, which they have monthly traffic estimate of 44,900,000 baht and Shopee is growing strong with monthly traffic estimate of 30,100,000 baht.

Thailand’s online retail commerce is driven by several factors, including increased smartphone penetration and intense competition among eCommerce operators. The government’s PromptPay service, which falls under the e-payment scheme, is the key driver to stimulate eCommerce activities.

M-commerce

ITA ( International Trade Administration) Suggest that mobile commerce will continue to see strong growth in the coming years, especially among millennials who are comfortable using their smartphones to shop online. Thailand is a regional leader in mobile commerce, as 52% of online transactions take place via mobile devices (only South Korea is higher with 58%).

Social media

Thailand has active social media users of 51 million users which is about 71% of the total population. The application in Thailand that use for Messenger is LINE takes the first place (84%), Followed by Facebook, FB Messenger (72%), Which made Thailand is the largest market for the LINE messenger app and social media platform outside of Japan. For Social network applications, 93% of people internet users use Facebook, 91% use youtube and 65% for Instagram.

According to The inclusive internet, “Thailand is 7th out of 21 Asian nations and out of 24 upper-middle-income countries with a global rank of 36th out of 100. It stands in the top 6 in Asia on Availability and Affordability, but its overall rank is compromised by poor readiness (72nd globally) due to low literacy and online trust & safety scores”.
